A DELEGATION from the team putting together England’s 2018 FIFA World Cup bid will be visiting Leicester for the second time tomorrow (8th). The team will be finding out the latest on Leicester’s bid to host World Cup games. It will be their final visit before a decision is made by FIFA in December.

Cllr Patrick Kitterick, city council cabinet member for regeneration said: "We’re looking forward to showing the England 2018 delegation more of the city, and how our plans have developed since they were last here".

"We’ll be showing them around Victoria and Abbey parks, where we aim to have big screens showing the matches during the World Cup. And we’ll also be visiting the Back the Bid shop in Highcross, looking at the promotional banners and posters that we’ve put up around the city,
on the way".

Leicester was one of 16 cities to submit preliminary bids to the England 2018 team at the end of August. Final bid documents must be in by November 6th. Around 16 stadiums are expected to be part of England’s bid, with some cities providing more than one stadium. An announcement on the final list of host cities will be made in December. The successful cities will then be included in the England 2018 Bid Book to be presented to FIFA next year.

Leicester’s bid team is being led by the city council and supported by a partnership including Prospect Leicestershire, the county council, Leicester City Football Club, Leicester Tigers, Leicestershire Police, Loughborough University, and Leicester Shire Promotions.
